T42 and wireless issue...

#1 Post by SilentZero » Thu Oct 14, 2004 2:47 am

Hello all. I just bought a new T42 and recieved it today. I updated it to SP2 and all the required updates via Acess and windows, but im having a connection issue. I have the Intel 2200BG wireless card built in and using a Linksys 54G wireless router (WPA-PSK/TKIP enabled). I can connect however after about 1 hour connected I loose my connection (it reads 1mbps instead of 54mbps), and I can't reconnect for another few minutes until I try helplessly to connect to my WLAN again. I have no idea what is causing this or how to fix it. I have tried both drivers for the intel controller (the one it came with and the updated one), and that doesn't help. I know its not a range issue as I am sitting 2 ft from the router. I know theres been plenty of people who have had issues with this kind of thing, so any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm getting a similar response on my T42, Not sure why - but maybe it has something to do with interference. It is intermittent - at times I will be ok for hours at a cafe, and in my place it will go in and out every 30 minutes.

Not sure what to do.

I sent my thinkpad in for the same problem and finally on the 2nd or third repair(i 4get) they fixed it. well not really but kinda, but i don't care much to test it out. i took wpa encryption off my router and left it open with only a MAC filter on and ssid off.

For my T42p with abg card, the problem was with the latest bios. Once I reverted to an earlier version (3.06f), my wireless connection has been perfect. The latest access connection and wireless drivers were fine for my machine, however. Hope this helps.

I had a problem similar to the one you describe, and I ended up uninstalling the IBM wireless software (wizard) that came preinstalled. For some reason, it seemed to be conflicting with windows.

After the uninstall, the problem was fixed, but YMMV.

Keep us updated on your progress!
