In system properties, under computer...
I am curious about this. I have notice this and is bothering me for a while now. When ever I look under system properties, general, under computer. I notice my cpu is always at 1.7 Ghz. The number bottom left. I have seen a couple of other laptops that sometimes only run around 600 Mhz. I was wondering if most laptops run like mines, always at 1.7 Ghz. I have had this T42 for some time now and never seen it go down. Picture of what im talking about. Any input will be nice, Thanks.

What power scheme are you using? If you use 'max Performance' the CPU speed won't throlltle down as much as with other schemes like 'adaptive' or 'slow'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't System Properties just tell you 'what's under the hood', not what it's doing? All it's telling you is that you've got a PM 1.70 GHz processor with x GB of ram. Just like my car has a 200 horsepower 2.5 litre engine. It's not producing 200 hp at idle, but it's all there.
[edit] Well, after a bit of experimenting, I've found that I am wrong
By pressing 'windows key' + 'pause / break' (System Properties shortcut) a number of times I finally saw 598 MHz on the bottom most line . . . About 20 times it was 1.69 GHz, but then once it was 598 MHz. The line above remained 1.70 GHz throughout. So 19 times out of 20 my processor was running at full power in order to supply the 'System Properties' information. In answer to your question, I think they're both telling the truth, just in different ways
System Properties is not 'adaptive' and tells you what it sees at that moment; NHC tells you what it sees moment by moment. Does that help?
