t42 SXGA+ Cant get it to work

Bought a samsung LCD off ebay to upgrade my T42 from XGA to SXGA+. The exact model of the LCD is Samsung LTN141P4-L01. Bought a new LCD cable from IBM part number 91P6940. Thats the alternative part for the 91P6787 recommended on this forum. When starting the laptop it comes on for 3 seconds then just shuts off. When pulling the lcd cable out of the LCD but leaving in the motherboard it boots up all the way (with the LCD just staying white). There seems to be some evidence on the net that this specific LCD does not work on T42's (although claimed to work by the ebay seller).

Any one have a clue?

I don't have a lot of information, but I have not seen that model in a T4X. That panel is usually found in a Dell Latitude 600. There isn't a lot of info on compatibility, but it was my impression that the Dell used a different inverter

I'm in a similar situation as the OP. Bought the 93P5570 SXGA+ LCD (also labeled as Samsung LTN141P4-L02, not L01) for use with my 1871 T43.

This appears to be the widely recommended part:

T40/T41/T42 LCD cable assembly SXGA+

However, there is a different part listed for the T43:

Any idea what the difference is between the T43 and T40/T41/T42 cable?

I din't know for sure about the cable, but if I were guessing, my guess would be that they are substantially the same. LTN141P4-L02 is the part number I have seen for thinkpad T4X SXGA+ screens. I would guess the LTN141P4-L01 is not the same. They both have 30 pin connectors, but the pin-outs could be different. THe panel makers make a few panels, but then use custom connections and arrangements for each laptop manufacturer.

I remember same issue long time ago - I purchased same P/N LCD panel, non IBM branded and it didn't work.

No matter what you do now - won't help, get a different screen or get sscreen with IBM FRU on it.

"Can you confirm if there are any major differences between the Samsung LTN141P4-L01 and the Samsung LTN141P4-L02 (Note the different suffix). "

and got the following reply

"They are the exact same panel, they were just produced for different laptops, that is why the ending is different, but they are 100% compatible to each other."

What gives?

I certainly cannot say they are wrong. If I had both panels in front of me, I could try to check out similarities and differences.

I have replaced a LTN141P4-L02 for a T40p which was cracked.
So, I'm sure the LTN141P4-L02 should work if the cable is the right one.

Note that plugging in "any 30pins LCD" can kill the GPU on the mainboard. Please stay with the original part numbers.
