T41 XGA LCD Upgrade

#1 Post by Harryc » Sat Jun 16, 2007 4:54 pm

I have a T41 with a 14" 1024x768 XGA LCD. If I wanted to upgrade it to a 14" 1400X1050 SXGA LCD, FRU# 13N7046, IBM# 13N7045, what other parts would I need? Inverter and cable?

yes, you need a inverter and cable too.
well, this would eventually make your hinges become loosen

the more you used the more you would loosen it.

Hmmm, ok thanks. Anyone have a link to the part numbers I'd be looking at for the inverter and cable?

Ok I see. If I buy an entire LCD/Lid assembly, it would include the inverter, cable, and hopefully the WiFi antenna.

Good question. The 15" seems to be much more common. I'll keep an eye out for a 14.1".

why do you still want to upgrade your T41 since you have SXGA+ screen in your T60 already.?

The T41 is not for me, it's for a new college student who lives here ;).

yup, most of the people would prefer SXGA+ screen.
Perhaps your son isn't that "professional" enough to use the high resolution screen, i think most likely he won't appreciate it.

Let him try your T60 with SXGA+ option first, before making any decision to upgrade. :) (suggestion)

We seem to be beyond that, but I believe that the 14" XGA and SXGA+ screens use the same inverter.

Just so we're clear here, I believe the OP has a T41 14" XGA and wants to change to a 14" SXGA+. If so, then the inverters are the same (FRU 26P8464). This information per the HMM.

Thanks Ray. The 'OP' is me (Harry). No need to be so formal :). Does the upgrade require a new cable as well?

The threads I have read on the subject say that YOU DO NEED A DIFFERENT CABLE.

FYI, I've noticed that some people sell the entire LCD assembly which includes the LCD, cable, inverter, bezel, cover, antennas, hinges, clear plates, latches, etc. for the same price as just the LCD.

Clearly this is the way to go, if you can find it. Upon occasion, you might even get luck and snag one with the Bluetooth antenna - paving the way for yet another upgrade.

I'd say the entire display swap procedure is simpler than swapping just the LCD - or certainly about the same difficulty/time level.

Best of luck.
