How do I get the china keyboard replaced in canada?
How do I get the china keyboard replaced in canada?
I have a made in china keyboard, and I really want it replaced with the thai. What would I have to do? I know in the US you can just call, but I remember someone saying they had a really hard time with it. I know there was a thread about getting one in canada, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a specific person I should talk to? Also, has there been problems getting the sanyo battery replaced, the battery doesn't really bug me, but I may as well get two birds with one stone.
BTW, how do I find out if I have the idtech or the samsung screen? I went to that parts lookup page, but since it's a canadian thinkpad it won't list the parts.

replace keyboard in canada
hi,
actually i called directly to ibm US. i described keyboard things..
but they just said, bring laptop to ibm Canada repair center and
let them inspect and check first. if they find any defective points,
they will order it from us and replace it for me.
i expected i could get thai keyboard easily as many guys did in US.
but it seems not that easy..
although my thinkpad is US-version(2379-dxu), i have to go through
with ibm Canada anytime?
thanks,

I am in Canada and IBM sent me the new Thai keyboard.
The story:
1. A couple of the keys in my keyboard were sticking - It was a China made keyboard.
2. I called the IBM's tech support.
Toll Free: 1-800-565-3344
Toronto: 416-383-33445
3. After all the serial # and stuff, I got to talk to a tech support guy and I said: "A couples of keys in my keyboard are sticking, and I need a new keyboard."
4. The tech support guy tried to send me to a depot where they could check it out and swap the keyboard.
5. I said that I didn't have time and that the keyboard is a user replaceable part - So after a couple of minutes on the phone the tech support manager, he asked me to verify my address and that I would be receiving the replacement in a couple of days - Together with a purolator label to send the old one back.
My old keyboard was actually defective, so IBM sent me a new one - If you just want to swap the China with a Thai keyboard, just because the Thai is better, you probably need to do a bit of convincing - Also, ask to talk to a tech support manager - They have the descition making power at the end of the day...
The whole experience was painless...
Good luck...

As the end user, the part comes from IBM - There shouldn't be a disctinction of where it comes from - Actually, the parts are sent from Markham, however, I'm sure they get some parts from the US to replenish their inventory - So all parts come from "IBM."
Also, all part #s are the same internationaly - And, ussually, tech support guys don't know where the parts are made - All they know is the # in their inventory. Though, if you escalate the issue, you get to talk to a different tech support person and he/she may know which part is made where - Your mileage will vary: some tech support guys know more than others.
Also2, the warranty is international - So you can call wherever you are around the globe and they will fix your ThinkPad and courrier the correct part to you - Of course, if you have requested it by the correct part number and the packing people don't make a mistake.
So, if you have the correct part number, just give it to them and they should find it...
