Way too hot!

#1 Post by venik » Mon Jun 18, 2007 6:23 am

I have a t43p that is about one year old. I am running Notebook Hardware control v. 2 on it, and it shows that the CPU temperature is 90 deg. C even when I am doing practically nothing on the machine.
I have 2 GB of ram on it, and a 100 gb hard drive, but no USB is plugged in at the time.
Why has it gotten so hot suddenly? Is it safe? Is it normal?
Thanks

IMHO, it's running too hot at idle. Does the fan spin at all?

Yes, its running hot but still within spec. According to Intel, the maximum temperature is 100 and 125 is the limit when the CPU may be permanently damaged.

Still, it should not be at 90 while idle. Is the fan working? Is the exhaust blocked?

The exhaust should be blocked. Somehow my T43p heatsink is malfunctioning, last night tested the CPU at Max Performance without undervolting and temp was 56-60C

This fan was installed by a person who I don't know if it's a certified IBM (he claimed he was), but I think he bent something, because no matter how I reset the heatsink with new thermal compound, the temps are still high. Laptop LCD goes nuts when playing TRD3.
