T40 Lcd really dark/dim, even after lcd replacement

#1 Post by milamber » Tue Jun 19, 2007 7:03 pm

The lcd is dark on boot up and in windows; however, if you look closely you can see the images but very dim. VGA port works fine--using an external monitor now. Reading the posts the problem appears to be the inverter or the backlight but I replaced the whole lcd panel with cover (off a friend's T40) and it is still dark.
I suspect it is the board that's toast? Is there anything else I should look for or try before I go out and buy a replacement board?

Also, when I plug in the battery it is not charging the battery--stuck at 80% for over an hour. Under Battery MaxiMiser it says Charging but the Charge Completetion Time is blank. I'm not sure if that has any correlation to my lcd issue.

Thank you!

PS. This forum is great--solved/cleared up many other issues I had with my laptop.

This may be a bit *too* simple, but have you tried upping the display brightness? Fn-Home will raise the brightness.

Make sure the switch that presses when the display is closed is not stuck.

The brightness is at max and the button isn't stuck... :(
Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Hey,

This one is tough. I had the same problem with an R51, switched the lcd, still dark. Thought it was the board, but it seemed both LCDs were bad. If you can get one more LCD to try (one that was working when it was removed and you saw that it was) then your answer is most likely a bad board.
