T40 400 TO533 FSB CPU SUPPORTED?WITH INTEL 855PM CHIPSET.

#1 Post by unrortit » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:02 pm

I KNOW THIS CHIPSET SUPPORTS 533 HOST BUS
FACT THE MEMORY RATIO BEING 3.4 FROM THE CURRENT 400 FSB CPU HOST BUS AFFIRMS host bus is indeed 133/533fsb capable
does the t40 support 533 fsb cpu @533fsb speeds?
only practical answers please?

My first suggestion is to turn off caps lock.

No, 400Mhz only, but you can certainly run a 533Mhz Dothan in one. It just won't run at full speed. Another option is to swap in a T43 system board.

855 supports 533? Somehow I doubt this. Well people have pulled out the soldering iron and modded it (a dell) to do 533, but AFAIK every laptop that came with the 855 only supported 400.

No, the T40 does not support 533. General rule is only laptops with DDR2 support 533.

thanks fellas,
i got confused because p4 845-865 chipsets fully support
533fsb,the fact the pm 855 chipset runs the ram at 533fsb
suggested it ought to be capable of 533 fsb too.
unfortunately seems like intel+the companys deprived the 855 chipset of its true capabilties otherwise the ram would not work at 533 but in the t40s case it does. :?
you get that,t43?fair enough
id rather rip out the slug t40 motherboard in order to save the need for overpriced 400fsb cpu upgrade to 2.0 ghz ,sell the motherboard, get a good used t43 motherboard,do the fsb mod the 1.5cpu to work @ 2.0 ghz.
yes theres always the counter method to company manipulation techniques

If you find a source of T43 system boards inexpensive enough to make this upgrade worthwhile let us know.

Try a retailer called Vantech Computers in Sydney with 1.7GHz CPUs for $85. I don't think you'll get much better a price than this anywhere - I enquired with them before I bought my T42, so give them a call and see if they can help you out. Do a search at www.tradingpost.com.au for Vantech and look for the CPUs.
