hard drive missing its perforated metal cover

(If I may repeat a question which got lost in the discussion in which it was previously posted.)

The hard drive supplied with my Thinkpad had a sheet of plastic insulation and a perforated metal cover screwed onto its circuitry side. Without it, the drive could be electrically shorted. The "OEM" hard drive I bought from NewEgg doesn't have this. Is this normal?
Assuming I will have just one perforated metal cover for two drives, I wonder where the protection is more important, in the Thinkpad or in the portable USB enclosure?
Best option, can a spare peforated metal cover for a 2.5" hard drive be bought somewhere?

It sounds like your talking about a hard drive caddy. It's only needed for the internal TP drive. The enclosure does not need it. If you put the new drive in the TP, you've have to transfer the caddy to it. You can buy a spare caddy just about anywhere TP parts are sold. EBay is a good place.
