New T42p Pictures

#1 Post by jimg72 » Fri Oct 15, 2004 11:23 am

Just thought I'd share a link to some pictures of my new T42p. This is my first Thinkpad, I've owned 3 Dell laptops (Inspiron 3800, 8200, & Precision M60) before now. So far on day 3 I'm loving it, the screen is beautiful, build quality much better than Dell, and the wow factor off the scale. I'm just impressed with the way IBM does business compared to Dell. From ordering to driver downloads everything just seems much more together.

Anyway, posted a couple of the pictures to my blog that I took when it came in, and also posted links to original hi-res shots that some here might be interested in seeing. I know I looked around for hi-res before I made my purchase and couldn't find many. If anyone has other requests for different angles or whatnot post here or to the blog and I'll take them and post them.

Great community, look forward to participating...

Man that Flexview looks nice. Sometimes I really think I should've gotten it. Take that plastic cover sticker off your bezel!

Lovely! I would love to see high-rez pix of the screen in Windows, and more of the unit, as many as you wish to take. Specifically anything showing the tolerances, build quality, etc. Please poste again at the Thinkpad forum. Thanks!

More hi-res pictures, Thinkpad T42p 2373KXU. You sure can't hide the dust from a 7.1mp camera

p0ser, you can run what they call windows themes or visual styles that make your windows look like whatever you want. Look into stylexp, I have a panther theme that is quite nice.

I agree. It looks very plain an yet sharp.

If I could find a place to DL nice skins then i would buy stylesxp but for now I make do with Windows.

So care to let us in on where you got it? :D

Hadn't been able to check in since I posted, all sorts of questions... I am a developer, I live in vs.net and TOAD. The pictures are 7.1 megapixel, taken with a Canon Powershot S70.

The style you see there is a Windows Blinds skin called Dogma X. I've used visual styles and window blinds and styles are easier but blinds is nicer. Either offers a nice change of pace. Most of time when I'm working I just use XP Luna since it plays nice with everything, but that Dogma style is nice looking and usable, rare if you ask me.

I am on s2ki, I'm jimg71 there, a typo when I created my account left me at *71 instead of my usual *72. Haven't checked in there in a while, when I first got my S in April I was reading there all the time but now that I've found answers to most of my questions I spend my S time in the car not in front of the monitor reading about them. I should check in more often.

Thanks for the comments, loving my first Thinkpad!!!

hi everyone, since there was interest in visual themes, i thought i would chip in with some information.

StyleXP is what I use mainly because I got it free, here is the URL to their site and you can get a free trial there to play with it:

http://www.tgtsoft.com/prod_sxp.php

Then you can go to one of many sites to get more skins

Themexp.org is good although beware of the pop ups and the spyware install boxes. They do have nice skins though. I included my desktop with a couple of windows open so you could see what I run and how slick it is. I was debating between the IBM and the PowerBook, so I thought lets have the best of both world and run the slick OSX panther style on my IBM thinkpad.

Hope this helps,

Gael
