TP stalls at bootup when USB attached

#1 Post by Ogg » Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:16 pm

When I have a USB flashdrive inserted in the laptop, Windows fails to bootup. The screen simply stays at the IBM logo (the one with "hit Access IBM to interrupt bootup".). Is this behaviour normal? I hope not. Is anyone else experiencing this "problem". Other than making sure that no USB device is plugged into the laptop before bootup, is there another solution?

Go into the BIOS setup menu and make sure the USB device is listed after the hard drive in the boot sequence, or else exclude it from the boot order. Press F1 at the beginning of the boot sequence to enter the BIOS setup menu.

Thanks so much. I'll take a look at the BIOS setting the next time I boot up!

I arranged CD-ROM to be [1], then HDD as [2], then USB devices. Just thought I'd mention one odd thing I noticed in that BIOS setting. My list included two entries for "USB flash" One entry has a dash in front of it. What does that mean? I excluded Legacy Floppy (since my TP doesn't have one) but it simply moved the item to the exclude section. So, I'm still wondering how the entry with the dash/negative was achieved and what it means.
