T41 Warranty Services - On-Site Repair

#1 Post by Harryc » Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:58 pm

I picked up a T41 (not the one in my sig) that has On-Site Repair until 10/07. A couple of the keys are so worn that they have indentations in them, and (2) of the keys have worn letters. The right shift key is worn down to the plastic (no shift word or up arrow symbol). Also the left touchpad button has no travel. It works (sometimes) but you have to press hard and it doesn't 'click' or move up and down. Are these items repairable by 'on-site repair' under warranty? To me it looks like I'd need a new keyboard and an entire palm rest assm.

Yes, they would be covered-but personally, I would just call the support number and tell them why you need a new keyboard and palmrest and have them send them to you so that you can replace them yourself. These are very, very easy parts to replace yourself-and after some of the not so stellar on-site repairs I have heard of I would not take the chance. Fifteen minutes and you would be finished with the swap.
I lost count...

I will do just that when they call back. Thanks for the information and advice.
