Steps for a new t42

#1 Post by SCURaja » Fri Oct 15, 2004 5:02 pm

'sup everyone

my brand new 23733xu finally arrived in the mail yesterday..after being delayed by the FDA. (go figure)
i've looked through the forums..and thought that this would be a valuable topic..
for a fresh new t42..what have people done..right out of the box?

I have so far:
1) Created recovery cd's
2) started up ibm update connector..even though it doesn't work as well as i would like..
3) ran windows update and unfortunately upgraded to sp2..it's inevitable..so i just went for it..
4) Downloaded some updates manually from ibm's support site and ran the update service

any other suggestions?
my 2nd post..so..hopefully i won't get flamed ;-p

Unless you want to use microsoft's sad firewall, I would recommend a real firewall, antivirus, spyware....in other words, real security. Then you could have fun and put linux on the thing :-)

i put in trend micro internet security..it's awesome virus support..without hogging up resources..like norton and mcafee..and it comes with a decent firewall..i disabled microsoft's block everything except for your browser firewall...

Top 5 things I did with my new T42:
1. Thoroughly checked dead pixels
2. Changed to Tai keyboard and put support on the RHS of the keyboard to reduce flex
3. Updated BIOS and softwares and got a receovery CD set
4. Upgraded memory to 1GB
5. Bought an IBM case and a ShaggyMac screen protector to prevent marking of keyboard on the screen
