FireGL vs 9x000

Hi all,

I've taken a T42p 2373-HTG and I am waiting for it. I noticed that it has the video card FireGL instead of one of the 9x000 series.
Which is the difference? Is the FireGL compatible with the DX9?
Or maybe I will not use anymore with Longhorn?

The FireGL T2 is pretty much the same chip as the Mobility Radeon 9600, and has 64MB more video memory to boot. It'll do everything the 9600 can, but word is it may be ever so slightly slower on DirectX because the drivers are optimized for stability rather than top speed. That's a trade-off I'll take anyday.

Ti scrivo in italiano, facciamo prima tutti e due.

Mi è appena arrivato il T42p (2373-KYG), con la scheda FIREGL, e posso confermare quello che ti hanno già detto.
Il chipset è quello della 9600, la ram il doppio e si vede.
Non ho fatto test con i vari 3d mark, e dipende se ti interessa usarlo per giocare o per modellazione 3d. nel secondo caso la scheda dovrebbe andare molto meglio della 9600, per i giochi ho giusto provato far cry e comincia a scattare a 1280X1024, al livello di grafica più alto, con i driver di fabbrica, che non è per niente male.

Tieni presente che scheda e driver sono ottimizzati per applicazioni openGL, ma sono perfettamente compatibili con directX9, e danno ottime prestazioni.
Inoltre potrai provare qualche driver più spinto ( tipo omega o dna), se vuoi puntare su una maggiore velocità.
