Life without your ThinkPad

#1 Post by kjarrett » Sat Oct 16, 2004 6:17 am

My T30 is in for repairs.

I am going nuts without it.

Never realized how much I relied on it.

I've got a kickin' Dell desktop (see below - the monitor rocks) but I miss being able to work in other parts of the house. I am starting to teach an online class soon (at www.waldenu.edu) and without a notebook I am gonna be DEAD. I hope it's back soon.

Here is my "other" system:

Dimension XPS Gen2 | 3.0ghz P4 w/HT | 2gb 400mhz DDR RAM | 120gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM SATA | Radeon 9800 Pro 128 | Dell 2001FP 20" LCD | SB Audigy 2 | Gigabit LAN | CDRW/DVD | XP Pro SP-2
IBM Thinkpad T42p 2373-KXU | 2.0ghz Pentium® M 755 | 2gb RAM | 15" UXGA Flexview | FireGL T2 128mb | 60gb @ 7200rpm | CDRW/DVD Multiburner | IBM a/b/g

I also have a T30. Couldn't imagine being without it.
All I can say is, I hope it comes back to you soon (IBM's turn around time is usually only a couple of days), and Whaaaaaaaa

Every other time I've had it in for repairs it's come back quickly, within days. This is a special situation, I am trying to be patient, but it's a goregous day and I have a ton of work to do, and it would be really nice to be sitting outside right now............................................................ :(

I have had to send me Dell out (own a IBM now) and there is nothing worse than that having a laptop. My wife likes it, I get more done around the house but for my sake, its not good.

I can't think of living a day on campus without my ThinkPad. I can't do my work, can't contact my friends over IM, and can't check my emails. Not to mention going without my music collection. Ouch! :?

It sucks. I was teased with a new T42 until it died less than a week later, for no reason at all.

I'm awaiting my new one, 3 weeks later, which hopefully will come today! If not today, then monday for sure...

I know EXACTLY what you mean... I also had a screaming fast desktop, as well as other laptops... But I found that everything else just collected dust while I happily used my T30.. Something about ThinkPads makes you want to work instead of play.. I can also work for 8 straight hours on it and get up with nothing but a numb butt maybe.. On my desktop, I couldn't sit for over 3 hours without a big break. Too much heat, too loud, and my 21" P260 sure wasn't as easy on the eyes as my ThinkPad's SXGA :)
