Fan problems with my T40 (2373)

#1 Post by Yann » Wed Jun 27, 2007 8:30 am

Hi,

First, I would like to apologize for my english but I'll do my best to make me comprehensible.

Here's my problem.

For a few days, what it seems the fan of my thinkpad has started being very noisy. It sounds like an helicopeter as soon as it begins to start (on start up, for instance).

Yesterday, it was impossible to start myt thinkpapad because of a "Fan error". So I cleaned the fan which was very dusty. I managed to start up but this weird noise goes on...

My question is have I to change the fan and if yes, is it easy ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rgds

Yes, you should replace the fan.

It is a pretty simple repair. You remove the keyboard and palmrest, remove the three screws securing the fan, unplug it, and remove it. Clean the CPU of thermal grease and apply new. Installation is reverse of removal.
