Hello,
I've been using my T40 now for six months and whilst it's an old machine now by some standards I have to say it's just great!
It's quite a basic one, a gig of RAM, 40gig hard disk and a radeon 7500. But for what it is it's a really nippy machine.
If you're in the marketplace, one of these bad boys is a great machine to have and the Pentium M 1.5GHz has been really good for all my computing.
I love the fact it's light (5lbs or so), great keyboard and just a really well built machine. The only downside is that picking it up one handed from the left hand side at the front flips it out but doing that is a bad idea.
It's everything I loved about the T23 but with better mod cons such as support for internal wireless 802.11g (had b on my T23) and bluetooth and it is a lot quicker, plus a higher amount of RAM can be put in.
For a workhorse for those on more of a budget, a T40/41 can be had really cheaply and I think I'd highly recommend one.
Just thought a good positive message will perhaps reassure someone in the marketplace for one. You won't regret it!
Vicky

oddly i can barely if anything can tell the diff between a t40 with 5,400rpm drive and a t2x with a 7,200 rpm drive, the t2x is more robust, way way faster in clean install of windows with typical microsoft retail software(loads every single driver +by the time your through your emails of the week with the older thinkpad, the other one is still trying to load hopefully non buggy drivers on themsome newer hype machines.(real speed test for the pro")
add to that upgrading to dvd burner with the older thinkpads are a snack where as the price for a superslim t4x drive is way way
out of the norm(for them on non priviledged income).and the t2x screen is better quality you can see by day and light!for the record a tp 2x in battery mode feels faster and more responsive then the t40 in battery mode speeds, not only ,uses less watts per hour, never snaps chipsets even i you tread on it!
i do not reccomend any of these t4x spec machines for out door
use unless one carefully ensures nothing gets distorted.
or puts it in a secure padded case to take indoors to the office.
requires upmost of caution!
on a positive note battery consumption at full cpuspeeds are excellentslightly better than t2x by approx 10%
and slim design is easy on the wrists, fast usb2.0,gigabit lan ,performance of the ati chipset suprisingly good, compatabilty with ddr 2100+ddr2700 modules, though ibm killed cas 2 timing irrespective how good
of module was used which is kinda dissapointing considering
the 400 fsb host bus.
2 bobs worth.
