Standby mode "Hang" Problem Solved

#1 Post by krymson » Sat Oct 16, 2004 11:57 pm

I've researched the slow/hanging standby problem for a while and found there are really two kinds of problems

1st Type:If your Thinkpad has started to 'hang' on "Preparing to standby", or if it takes a relatively long time, perhaps, 1 to 5 minutes, to go into standby, then you have a image mounting software problem. You need to uninstall the cd-image mounting program you got for instance Nero Image Drive or Daemon Tools.

2nd Type : You try to enter standby but it gives you an error like
"The device driver for the 'XXXXX' device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver"

You have a program which is calling a driver which is preventing standby. You need to figure out what is doing this and uninstall that. Quicken is a culprit, but there may be others. You should be able to narrow the list down by ending tasks.

Here is a link to a post for this 2nd type of problem: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... andby+mode

If your standby problem is not solved or identified, I have no idea what's goin on. Maybe you can post below and we can try to figure it out.

Good luck.

I once had the first problem with an older version of the Nero Burning ROM software on a TP 600 (Nero 5.5.23). Took me half a year to find that needle in my haystack...
