Help:screen crush and blue screen

#1 Post by longers » Mon Jul 02, 2007 4:37 pm

I've got an IBM T43p 2668.After I got it back from IBM repair center (they replaced the planar card and CPU fan),I found it sometime would have screen crush and then blue screen....dead!Would someone tell me it's a hardware problem(memory or vedio card?) or software problem(vedio driver?)?Thanks a lot!

Depends on what the BSOD says.

Do this to halt it:

Right Click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Under start up recovery-settings> Then uncheck automaically restart and press OK.

Next time you'll be able to read the blue screen.

Report back the error #.

I don't know what screen crush means, but if you are getting junk on the screen and then blue screen, it sounds like hardware. Send it back.

IF you can take a picutre of the screen when it goes into this state for proof. Check event viewer also for System errors and track the error. Sounds like they f'd up your machine, or the shipment back to you was not a pleasant experience for your machine.

Sounds like they gave you a bad motherboard. Ideally, a unit should be run for at least a couple of days (I've heard weeks too) to make sure the harware is not going to fail. That's not really practical with warranty repairs, because of space, and because people want their laptops back in as timely a manner as possible. The chances of that happenning twice in a row are slim.

There are few questions to consider here:

Is it dead for good? or can you still get it going for a while?

Secondly, did you send the notebook with/without the HDD? If with, then did they wipe it out and load a factory image? If so, then I suggest on running a Windows and Thinkvantage system updates. Otherwise, they must have screwed things up and it's a case of bad mobo.

Error ID #: 108 Source:ati2mtag

The driver ati2dvag for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

Error ID #: 1003 Source: System error

But it seems it's not a vedio driver proble, since it was working before the replacement of planar card.

Thanks a lot,guys.

It can actually run for a while and is not necessarily dead. But vedio crush (screen junk) looks like a bomb for my T43.....sigh

why not? you told them what was happenning, so... they didn't believe you, or they just couldn't replicate the problem?

You said that you sent it in twice. Did they do anything to it the second time? If they replaced the motherboard twice, then that probably isn't the problem. If they didn't, then I'm confident that the board is the problem. From the sounds of it, they did not replace the board a second time. They could've done something else though. I'd find out what was done if you haven't already.

I would call back. Complain. Tell them what the BSOD says, and tell them that it started after the motherboard was installed. If they still won't replace it, check your PMs and contact me. I'm pretty sure they will if you raise enough hell.

For the first time,it seemed the planar card was not firmly installed and I sent it back again and probably they just reinstalled it card and make it firm...
