T40 reinstall of factory software -- DLA gone, can't install

#1 Post by SteveDC » Tue Jul 03, 2007 3:34 pm

Where is my Drive Letter Access?

I reinstalled the factory software (thorugh the blue "Access IBM" button) on my 4-year old T40. It did everything I needed so I have not done many driver upgrades from the "Thinkpad Driver Matrix" on the Lenovo web site.

Now, wanting to write to CD-ROM for others to read, I did not see a DLA on my drives when looking through My Computer.

(Previously, I had kept everything updated driver-wise, including DLA.)

So, I went to the Lenovo site and tried to install DLA Version 5.2 build 09a Release 2, and it won't because it does not find a previous version of DLA!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Look in the IBMTOOLS folder, there should be the installer. I think I've a backup of that installer, if you need it I could upload it.

I looked in the IBMTOOLS folder and subfolders, but don't see anything that looks like DLA.

I don't think I had to do that originally. Maybe I will install that "Software Installer" and it will figure out the migration path to the current DLA.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The DLA installer should be in

C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DLA\ENU\SETUP.EXE

I don't have a DLA folder in APPS. I just have ACCESS, ACCSUPT, ACROBAT, AIBMMsgCtr, HVISION, NORTONAV, PCDRWIN, RRPC, RRPCAPP, THEMES, and UPDATER.

The entire installation program there is ~19 MB. I am not sure why you do not have it. Someone will probably have to send it to you in 2 or more ZIP files via email, unless you have a site to upload it to. Do you know someone with a ThinkPad that could burn it to a CD for you?

After looking at my T40, you are missing DLA, DVDPLAY, and RECNOW. My experience is with using the official Recovery CDs. When using those, if the optical drive is not a DVD-ROM / CD-RW when doing the recovery, then those 3 folders will not be created. If your optical drive is only a CD-ROM, then it may make sense that the recovery process did not create those folders.

Hmmm. I do have the CD-RW but I am pretty sure it was not plugged in at the time I did the reinstall from the HD image -- I normally have the second battery in that slot. So, maybe it didn't put DLA on because it wasn't plugged in. Bummer!

Thanks!
