Laptop battery

#1 Post by ichikoo » Sun Oct 17, 2004 8:55 pm

Is it bad to have the ac adapter always connected to the laptop with the battery installed? I heard that there is a possibility that may shorten the battery life since it'll constantly keep on charging.

In general, is it better to keep the battery out when I have the ac adapter connected, or to let the charge go to 100%, and then unplug it until it reaches some low % before connecting it again?

Thank you!

don't do either! leave the battery in, and plugged in whenever you are near an outlet. Let the Battery Maximizer software do the work!

That entirely depends on your definition of "bad". Do you love your battery or your data?

You are correct that constant charging is bad for batteries. But for that reason, ThinkPads are designed to stop charging at 100% charge, and then not resume until the capacity drops below 95%. This is an adjustable parameter in newer versions of Battery MaxiMiser.
