7k60: Cant seem to find the right parts?

#1 Post by dd » Sun Oct 17, 2004 10:47 pm

Ok

So.........not wanting to screw my hard drive up at all..................I have bought another 7k60 hitachi hard disk.
For the time being I would like to be able to swop both drives in and out. I notice on removing the original drive that it has a "carrier" of some description (I guess to help with heat dissipation?). Also there seems to be a white plastic film? (Do I need this?) I would like to order this carrierr, plastic and the plastic case part that screws to the drive, so i can swop out the drives.............oh any anything else I may have overlooked.........

Can somebody point me in the right direction as I am having trouble finding them on the IBM website.

Thanks in advance.........

S

The manual says:

Cover - Hard Disk Part number: 13N5530 and is shown in the exploded drawing as part number 6.

However, there doesnt seem to be a hard disk "metal carrier" shown. Just the hard disk itself.

Can anybody help or enlighten me further.

I have never seen them on the IBM website. However, you can find the metal caddy part on Ebay:

Teresa

Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I am not in USA.

I have sent IBM NZ an email asking for the part number (And included the URL you sent so they understand exactly which part it is).

Will post back their response.

Thanks again

IBM's email response:

Thanks for contacting IBM
Please call IBM spare parts on 0800 733 111, they will be able to assist
your further with your enquiry. Make sure to have your full product type
number for your T41P ThinkPad.
--------------------------------------------
So I rang 0800 733 111...............and spent some considerable time on hold....................only to be told that it was the wrong number (I needed the part number)...............and that I should ring 0800 733 222. This I did (More time on hold)................only to be told that they do NOT sell the part seperately; only with a drive!

Would be so much easier if I lived in USA !

When I purchased my T42, I also purchased a 7K60 (not from IBM) to replace the slower drive that came with the T42. When I took the original drive out, I noticed it had that "grill" enclosure and sheet around it (which the 7K60 did not have). I called IBM and asked them if I should move that grill enclosure to the 7K60 drive before installing it as the main drive. The guy put me on hold and came back a bit later confirming that I should do that. So I did that, and then installed the orginal drive (without the grill) into a ultrabay slim enclosure. Everything worked OK.

actually the these film type things are for charges protection. they are all coming in a pack in Misc Kit p/n 13R2913. if this is what you want then you call the IBM spare parts sale and order by giving them the part number above. I am just assembing a T42p right now but i haven't got to stage of installing the HDD so i am really not sure which plastic you mee. but as i think you mean the Insulator for HDD.

Hi

So you can confirm that IBM part number Misc Kit p/n 13R2913 does in fact include the caddy as shown here:

http://search.ebay.com/t40-caddy_W0QQfr ... 2Q3aUSQ3a2

Many thanks

I would seriously doubt it. AFAIK it is not available to buy seperately from IBM - and I am 99% sure that it ISN'T in that parts kit...

the caddy is not a in this part number. the system I am using is a T42p 2373 KXM if your system is in 2373 then you don't need a caddy. just the films with comes on the top of the hard disk. I don't know why ppl are using the caddy for . if you get a 9.5 mm size harddisk then it will fit perfect. or may be you mean HDD Cover or Ultrabay Guide Rail Assembly.
