Just got the T42p: the perfect machine!

#1 Post by Cecilia76 » Mon Oct 18, 2004 3:02 am

Hi all,

I've recently received my baby, a T42p type 2372-HTG.

The short story: IT'S THE PERFECT MACHINE!

The long story:

IBM - T42p type 2373-HTG (Centrino)
Pentium M Dothan 745 1.8 Ghz
1 Gb RAM
60 Gb HD 7200 rpm
ATI FireGL w/ 128 Mb
DVD Multiburner
15'' Flexview UXGA 1600 x 1200
English preload
2 keyboard: the german and the italian one

I've bought it online from a site located in Munich (Germany). I am
italian so I need the ITA keyb: I asked the seller to have one for
the same price so I received 2 keybs both made in Thailand.
The machine has not bad pixel, no strange noise on the palm rest, no hot surfaces and is very quiet.
I am really satisfied with it. I test it a little against my old laptop a Sony PCG-GRV616S with P4 2.6 GHz and 512 Mb Ram.
The Thinkpad is almost 2 times faster in each test I've done. I'll post the result as soon as possible.
It has 3 years warranty and today I called IBM asking for an Italian set of Recovery CD and I will receive it for free.
The Flexview is very sharp and clear. It's a pleasure to work with it: it's not bright as the X-bright but it has the right settings for me to work (I am a programmer). It is 2.8 Kg and it's a lot lighter than my previous laptop (4.5 Kg).
So, for the moment very happy for my purchase. I hope I will be also happier in the future. As I've told I will post some benchmarks and some photos as soon as possile.

Cheers, C.

Hi!

Also recieved my T42P this morning!

It's a UK spec 2373-HSG.
Specs are same as Cecelia's apart from the processor as i have the 735 1.7Ghz Dothan.

I am very very pleased with it so far; build quality and the 15" UXGA screen is outstanding!

Oh if anyone if curious, i paid £2160.

I wish one day (not in the distant future) I will end up having a fully functional IBM Thinkpad like you (after having received four defective ones).

Regarding your screen resolution (UXGA), are the fonts comfortable enough to read (especially IE)?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Enjoy your IBM Thinkpad!

Best regards,
Jordi

to jordi32:

now u mention it, yes the text in IE can get quite small but not to an extent it becomes uncomforatble to read, well not for me anyway (i am basing this on browsing the bbc news website).

hope that helps!
