512-1.5GB. Hibernation (powerdown & Restart) FASTER

#1 Post by wantathinkpad » Sun Jul 08, 2007 8:45 pm

Contrary to many posts, after adding 1GB to my original 512 GB on my T43 2668. My hibernation time has had a noticeable decrease . It is several seconds faster which is great as I often hibernate in a rush and want to make sure computer is off before putting in school bag.

The time takes for a response to hibernation is faster unlike what many people have said. This increase occurred despite several updates I made (as a result of the increase RAM) including windows updates, a few ThinkPad updates (R&R) browser and a few others, that had slowed my computer down motivating me to add the 1GB (I had uninstalled several after seeing the decrease with 512).

Just wanted to let you guys know it may not be true what you u heard about longer hibernation times.

It makes sense to me. When you have more RAM, more of your memory snapshot actually sits in the RAM, and less on the HD. The hibernation file must be saved elsewhere. RAM->HD traffic is faster than HD->HD traffic.

It's possible, though a bit unlikely, that when you upped the memory, and rebooted,... your hibernation file (hiberfil.sys, I think) was moved and defragged as a result. You can use SysInternals' fine PAGEDFRG utility to check this.
