T42 - fan problems again =(

#1 Post by DeionDavid » Thu Jul 12, 2007 4:11 pm

I kept getting the "Fan error" message and my computer wouldn't boot up, so I bought a new fan online.

After installing it, the fan started spinning but then the fan error message appeared again. I tried hitting the power button to start it a second time, but this time and all the times afterwards, the fan wouldn't even initially spin.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am really trying to avoid the $250 cost that IBM is asking me for pay to fix this.

Thanks.

Either you bought a bad fan or the circuitry in the motherboard that controls the fan is bad. Without a known-good fan, it is hard to tell.
