Long fan required?

#1 Post by Donwx » Fri Jul 13, 2007 7:29 pm

Hello, I've found a T42 motherboard with a 1.5 ghz processer with a Firegl T2 128mb video card,I am going to replace it with my T40 motherboard my question is if a Long fan is required or more of is it mandetory or could I just use my T40 fan temperarly if I dont use my laptop graphics intesevly? And allso will a usb fan or fan pad work just as good or better than a long fan.Or could I just add a Usb fan or fan pad to my laptop and use it with my T40 fan thanks.

If you are using a fire GL card, long fan is almost a must ... you can use a short fan temporarily, but in the long run it might harm your machine.

Hi, sorry to butt in here.
Looking at the specs in my sig, after fitting a 755 2.0 Ghz SL7EM Dothan, would it be advisable to install a long fan?
I realise I am probably upgrading just for the hell of it ( I used to do that with cars 20 years ago) but why not!
I would not have been able to build this machine without reading this forum and a little more help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Regards to all

Short fan covers cpu but not gpu. Long fan covers both. That said, IMHO long fan should have been used across the board.

It would have made life easier, that's for sure. But then again I'd miss the endless long vs short fan arguments around here...LOL.

:D :D Good one, Harry!

Oraklini, if you dont mind spending ~$20 for the HSF, do get it ... it brings down temps by atleast 3-4C regardless of whatever GPU chip you have.

The T40 HMM is the closest thing you'll find to a removal guide.

Gator
Thanks for that info. I missed out on a long fan on ebay a week ago. It seems in the uk we are short of dedicated T4x/p parts.
And T4x/p's in general...still i will keep looking :)
