Automatically switch between main and external LCD

#1 Post by sugo » Sun Jul 15, 2007 11:20 am

I have a T42 with ati mobility radeon 9600. Without manually pressing Fn-F7, is there a way to switch from main to external LCD automatically when I close the lid? I am using Omega driver. Presentation Director doesn't seem to help.

Also, when I unplugged the external monitor, the system doesn't switch back to main LCD automatically.

The intel integrated graphics on X60s could do both.

Thanks for any suggestions.

this is just via pluggin in the LCD into the VGA port on the T42? If so then not really because it's not a plug n play port. You have to enable it in the display properties (or via Fn + F7)

The dock or a port replicator would do that. That is, when you put the Thinkpad on the Dock/PR Windows will switch to display connected to the dock (if you set it that way) and when you eject from the dock it will go back to the LCD.

(Or you can use both at the sametime)

Yes the external monitor is connected simply via the VGA port.

well then you should have your answer :) Sux but as far as i know that's the only thing you can do for now. The VGA port is still anolog so wont get much better than that.

I guess I would agree with SHoTTa35, if you were using a dock, the machine would behave as you would want. I have a dock and when I plug it into the dock, it would switch to 1920x1200 but would switch back to the TP LCD when it is undocked. I have a T42P with the FireGL T2

Using a docking station should achieve what you want (seamlessly swap between two hardware profiles and configurations).
