LCD Replacement

#1 Post by Harryc » Sun Jul 15, 2007 12:15 pm

I have a T41 with onsite repair. I opened a repair ticket with Lenovo to replace the LCD. I requested that the LCD be shipped to me so that I can replace it myself. Any chance they'll comply with this request even though it is not a customer replaceable part? I really don't want anyone else to touch the machine if possible.

What is wrong with the screen?

I'm betting that they won't send you the panel. I have found that there is only one symptom where the panel is the most likely problem: red color. (backlight bulb) Dim screen is more often the inverter and, on T4x, junk on the screen is usually a motherboard issue.

Not likely that they would comply with this request.

Make sure they know it is a backlight problem and that you have an SXGA+ screen so at least you have some hope that the guy will bring the right part.

Thanks, I actually ran a parts report for the system and supplied the part number for the SXGA+ LCD. Hopefully that was enough.

If the warranty is 'on-site' you can watch the technician do the work.. I used to do that just to make sure that the parts were put back together right and no 'extra' parts.
