T42 Wireless

#1 Post by Contsi » Mon Jul 16, 2007 9:09 pm

Hello, I'm new to the forum; I have T42 without wireless. What is my best option to add wi-fi/bluetooth? Are both incorporated on the same card? I have an intel pro wireless that I think may work if I need 2 seperate cards. It of course has modem; how does that impact the configuration? Also, it only has Radeon 7500, is that upgradeble or is it intergrated?
Thanks

Bluetooth and wireless are two separate cards. Wireless is Mini PCI and Bluetooth is a Bluetooth/Modem Daughter Card. The Radeon 7500 is not upgradeable unless you change your system board. Post your T42's machine type/model (.e.g 2373-xxx) from the bottom of the unit and we'll make a wireless recommendation.

The wifi card is all by itself. The Bluetooth is a combo combo card with a modem. The video is not upgradeable unless you change the whole motherboard.

The difficult part is mounting the WiFi antenna into the LCD casing. Installing the card is not difficult with hardware maintenance manual from Lenovo website.

It's listed as 'wireless upgradeable' so you have an antenna already.

This is the card I use -

Works for T40 T41 T42 T43 X40 X41 R50 R51E X31 X32 ,
update your BIOS before you install the card

This looks like a mini - PCI for wi-fi only, I have one from a Dell that will probably work. is there a bluetooth card for the T42?

Don't be so sure. The BIOS prevents using non-IBM certified wifi cards. If you put that dell one in, the BIOS will give an 1802 error. You can get around that by googleing 1802 error fix. Make sure to read carefully the instruction as it may cause your computer to malfunction. As for the bluetooth. You need a bluetooth/modem cdc card (daughter card). I do not think there is a BIOS problem with those but I may be wrong.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I agree with what Stargate199 says. Here's a bluetooth/Modem daughter card -
