ever reddening backlight

#1 Post by dcouzin » Wed Jul 18, 2007 3:12 pm

The screen backlight on my T42 starts up reddish. It now takes about 15 seconds to become white, the lower left corner a little longer. The symptom has progressed gradually over the past three months. I wonder: could the light last years more? Will the light die all at once, leaving me with no display? My warranty expires Nov. 30, and I can't make a case for warranty lamp replacement until it's much worse than this. Can I accelerate the lamp death?
Thanks for advice.

Red video indicates a need for replacement. If you tell them the symptoms, I believe they will cover it without giving you any problems.

If they say no the first time, hang up and try again. I don't think they will though.

This is a classic system of the CCFL Backlight failure. This should be covered under your warranty. You will need to have this replaced because the backlight is going to fail and not work anymore.

Definate CCFL Backlight failure. If its under warranty have it replaced. If not you can replace the CCFL, however it is NOT easy. But it only costs about $20. If you want more info on doing this, just let me know, I'll dig up the stuff I saved off when I did mine.

If you are looking for a replacement SXGA+ screen I do have an extra new one sitting around. :D

I agree with mitchellst, send it in and get it replaced. They will replace displays with less problems than that. If the rep says no then hang up and call again.
