t43p motherboard

#1 Post by yourself » Thu Jul 19, 2007 1:18 pm

Hi all,

just wondering if you could help me find the proper part # for a T43p 14.1 inch motherboard with 128MB GPU?

I looked it up and think it's 39T0477 but I'm not sure because I don't have a specific list of the model numbers that the T43p's were.

edit: also I have been reading leaded boards are better than lead-free boards(reliability) ... is there truth to this?

& I believe leaded boards cost more than than lead-free.. but have to confirm this.

thanks in advance all

If you want to know the FRU# on the board that is in your laptop, check underneath the RAM slot on the back. It should be visible once you remove the RAM.

It's possible that I'm missing the point of the question though.

oh thanks for the idea, I do know what I have as my current system board, but I have a chance to upgrade my mobo, but I need the part number of the T43p's... specifically the 14.1 inch LCD model ones.

I don't think the screen size has anything to do with the motherboard. They should be interchangable. If you change screen sizes/resolutions, you have to swap out the FL Inverter and the cable, but the board should work fine either way.

FRU # 39T0477 :PLANAR, RADEON 128MB

Sub FRU # 42T0071 : PLANAR, 128MB

Both parts are used in T43/p models 2668, 2669, 2678, 2679, 2686, 2687.

Thank you very much mitchellst! That confirms my research :)

turns out the Leaded boards are cheaper than the Lead-Free, but the reliability of the leaded boards I've been reading on this board is better?!?

interesting

Although you're OK in this situation, I need to recant my previous statement. Some boards will not work with some LCDs. I was thinking all the T40 - T42 boards were interchangable, but I just ran into a T42 that (after a downgrade) does not like the LCD that is in it. I needed to get a board with a better graphics chip.

All boards are the same size. When you install in a 15" machine, you need to add a little board (called an interposer) that extends the connectors for the optical drive.

I'm aware of the interposer card, but I have a motherboard that apparently can't handle a 15" SXGA+ LCD. The cables are correct and working. The FL Inverter is correct and working. The motherboard will get video with other LCDs, and the LCD I'm putting in it will get video on other "better" boards.

I'm guessing it's an issue with the ATI 7500, but I truly don't know. The board, FRU 93P4158, is not normally used in the model I've tried to place it in... but they're both T40-42s, so I figured it would probably work. Apparently, I was mistaken.

Oh... maybe you were talking to the OP.
