T43 motherboard in T40 compalibility?

#1 Post by Donwx » Sat Jul 21, 2007 1:16 pm

Hello I have a T40 and I wanted to replace the motherboard with a T43 board ive searched the forums allready but I could not find a "straight" answer. I wanted to know if the T43 board will have any compalibility issues such as will the cpu and memory from my T40 work, and will the ati x300 video card on the T43 board work in the T40? (I know the pcmia will not work, I just wanted to know if the cpu and memeory will work even if not at full speed.) Thanks

CPU prolly would work but i wouldn't hope for it to. The memory wont work at all. The T43 uses DDR2 while the rest below that uses DDR (or DDR1).

The video card comes with the board, it's not a seperate unit. You might also need a different fan to keep things cooler

What are you trying to gain? You certainly need to replace the memory. CPUs are cheap. The drives wil work, but you will probably get the 2010 BIOS error. I'm not sure what you think will be the problem with the PC card slots. Everything is on the MB. The video controller will work with your LCD.

T43's have some problems with the aforementioned error and loud fan noise. Get a T41 or T42 board, your existing components will work. You may have PC2100 RAM in the T40, that will also work in the T41 or T42 board. The Banias CPU will also work as will the fan.

The ram won't work, the cpu should, the gpu shouldn't be a prob either.

I think the main issue was it fitting, there's something different about the pcmcia. And the price.

PCMCIA would not fit since T43 uses ExpressCard. I believe it can be fitted if you get the ExpressCard too.
