#1 Post by e_motek » Thu Oct 21, 2004 7:38 am

What do you guys think is it worth the price or this TP is just as good as 2379DYU with 1.8 chip ?

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Haha.

I don't think you'll see much of a difference in everyday apps.

cakos, what is up with the gay comment? totally random thing to say...I can't see how it relates to e_motek's post at all.

As for the 2.1 vs 1.8 GHz decision. I honestly doubt you would notice much difference. Unless you are running something which is extremely integer intensive, there wouldn't likely be much of a difference at all. Floating-point performance generally doesn't scale linearly with clock speed increases, so you wouldn't likely see a 2.1 / 1.8 = 1.166 increases in performance in that area. Games tend to have a lot of FP calculations, so they also wouldn't likely see at 16% performance increase. Also, there are all sorts of latency and other issues which would likely keep the true effective performance increase down to about 4-5% better.

Hope this helps with your decision. If it were me, I wouldn't really worry about it. But getting the fastest notebook is a cool thing.

lfeagan, I have misspelled word “guys” and corrected it only after cakos posted his comment.

Sorry for the spelling errors.

back on topic .. hehe.

with Intel's announced price cuts on all processors 2.0 ghz and below, will ibm reflect those changes in thinkpad pricing?

Just placed my order for “765” machine, will be shipped on approx. 11/02/2004.
When I get it I will let you know the difference in speed and overall operation.

Poser, I have been wondering about that too. I'm still within 30 days on my TP, and if it's a huge price difference, I think I would be able to return this one, and get a different one, plus a refund.
