Drivers For Windows XP
I have an IBM T20.
Just installed Windows XP onto a clean disk. I then installed SP2.
I next connected via windows update where one of the updates that microsoft tried to install was the Soundfusion drive. This install failed.
Where else can i find the necessary drivers. I've looked on the IBM web site but there does not seem to be a driver for XP.
Can anyone point to a specific link?
Regards

If your T20 came preloaded with XP initially, get the recovery CD's from IBM, install those, update the drivers from the IBM Web Site and then install SP2. Works well.
If your T20 did not come preloaded with XP, go to the IBM PC Support Website, enter your specific model number (1234-xxx), select the Download and Drivers pull-down, and find all of your drivers. Download and install. I would do the drivers before installing SP2, but it may not matter.
I bookmarked the IBM support site at:

The machine had windows 3.51 on it so it has no recovery CD for windows XP.
I went to IBMs site last night and put my model no anmd details but could not find any info re sound drivers for Windows XP.
I was hoping someone else has had a similar problem and could point me to the exact web page.

T20s were never preloaded with XP.
You should visit the driver matrix www.tpdrivers.com This lists all the available drivers for all ThinkPad models.
XP does not require an audio driver on the T20 - it is built in to the OS.

Thanks for the confirmation that drivers are built into OS.n3il wrote:T20s were never preloaded with XP.

Laptop at home so i'll try uninstalling drivers and reinstalling again tonight.
I'm afraid i'll have the same problem is that windows update will try and download newer drivers. and fail on load. I'll disable windows update and see if i get any sound from original XP drivers.

No Sound In Windows XP
unloaded drivers and then re-installed them from windows XP installationj disc.mattfromomaha wrote:With the new Windows Update, you can disable certain updates from downloading. I never download the driver updates through that because it's messed up both my UltraNav and sound before - only get drivers from IBM.
Still can get no sound.
Can anyone help?
Are you sure that you have sounds enabled (not muted) and volume turned up - both in the Windows volume control panel and by the three buttons below the screen? And don't forget about the volume control in whatever application you are trying to play from. There are bunches of places where you can adjust volume, and it seems like if any of them are muted or turned down you'll get no sound. Also make sure you don't have anything strange plugged into the headphone jack (a microphone, for instance)
I agree that XP should handle the T20 sound card out of the box. If you haven't already done so you could try going into control panel, removing the sound device, then rebooting and letting XP find and install it.
It sould work - it does on my T20 on the rare occasions when I want sound.
