Dual Monitor with Mini-Dock
Dual Monitor with Mini-Dock
I have a T42p attached to a mini-dock. Is it possible to run two monitors using the DVI and regular video ports at the same time? I have attached one monitor to the DVI port and a second monitor to the regular video-out port at the back of the mini-dock. Only the monitor attached to the regular video-out port will be recognized. Is there something else I can be doing in order to get both monitors to be recognized and working, or is this not possible? Thanks.

It is not possible, you can only use one of the VGA or DVI ports on the back. The alternative is another docking station that comes with a mini-pci slot, you can put a graphics card in there and run a dual display. This is quite costly though. Just do what I do and use the LCD and one other monitor. It works great!

That is not correct. There are NO Thinkpads with DVI output directly on the notebook.
The T42p will definitely drive the DVI of the mini-dock.
However, to answer gcchatel's question, no you cannot connect a monitor to both the DVI and the analog port. It is one or the other.
My suggestion is to connect a good flat panel to the DVI and run your notebook's screen as your second display. Works great.

Yes it is possible. My T42p with a dock 2 is connected to 2 Eizo Flexcsan 985lx. one to the dvi port, the other to the analog port

I am using a Dock II in combination with Matrox Millenium G450 DualHead PCI graphic card (32 MB RAM).
Unfortunately, this card doesn't support 2x 1600x1200dpi @ 85 Hz @ 32 bit, so I had to change the monitor settings to 24 bit to get 84Hz on the first and 85 Hz on the second screen (both @ 1600x1200).
TFT-Display should work fine and with a lower resoultion it should work at 32bit with crt monitors too.
BTW: Does anyone know a PCI graphic card with dual screen support and more than 32 MB RAM?
I am also wondering why it isn't possible to activate the internal ATI graphic card at the same time the thinkpad is in the dock. Is this possible by changing some settings perhaps?
