T40 Power Problems
Hi,
I received shipment of my Thinkpad T40 today, that I bought on e-bay. I powered it on with 50%+ battery life left.
Then I installed MS Office Pro. Afterwards, I shut the lid so it would go into sleep mode (battery around 35%).
I opened it up again and it would not power on. I tried a bit later, then saw it attempt to boot, then shut down. It seemed to be because the battery was low?
I plugged in the charger (which doesn't quite fit properly in the back), and the battery indicator is amber indicating it is charging. However, it still won't power on even when AC is connected. I press the power button, all LED indicators except HDD light up, then power indicator stays on, along with the battery icon.
Nothing is displayed on the screen, and it just hangs. I've tried FN+F3, FN+F7, FN+F5--no effect.
I am able to open the CD drive, but that's about it.
I even tried removing and putting back the battery with no success.
I am letting it charge now until the battery indicator goes green.
I tried removing and re-installing the hard drive thinking it was loose with no success.
Does anybody have any idea what the problem is here?

I'm not sure if it was configured that way. I assumed it was, because that's the way my work T60P is.richk wrote:Are you sure it was configured to suspend when the lid is closed? Try this: Unplug the machine and remove the battery. press the power button 10 times. The last time, hold the power button a full 10 seconds. Put the battery back, and plug it in. Try to power up.
I tried your suggestion, with no success

I'm pretty sure it's the right part # (08k8204). The battery has been charging actually.Harryc wrote:What is the part number on the AC adapter and have you measured voltage on it with a multimeter?
Thanks guys for the responses. I think I have given up. The seller has offered to replace the item if I ship it back, or even give a refund, whatever I want.
I had a few minutes of Thinkpad bliss, and then it was gone:(
