IBM USB Floppy Drive for T42

#1 Post by MarcW » Thu Oct 21, 2004 7:14 pm

I've never worked with USB floppy drives before so bear with me on this one. I need a floppy drive for my T42. Since the ultrabay drives don't fit I have no other option than using a USB drive. Am I correct in assuming that the bios needs to support the drive in order to be able to boot from it ? Can I use just any USB drive or does it have to be the one that IBM sells ? The IBM drive is very expensive compared to other USB drives available.

On a another note what are your experience booting from a USB flash memory drive ? Any recommended brands or anything I need to look for ?

Thanks,

-MarcW

Kingston just came out with a new flash drive: The Data Traveler II Plus. Very compact, fast, and not too expensive. It even has a security program, which I just deleted 'cause I don't need.

I can boot from and use my 1GB PQI "iStick" just fine. It's USB2.

I also have a slim, black, 2x-speed USB floppy that is bootable and works fine with my T42p.
