Need Some Help Identifying a Nut in T41p

#1 Post by driven240 » Wed Jul 25, 2007 1:36 am

Hi, my laptop recently died due to the BGA problem on the GPU and so I decided to use the heat gun method to attempt to fix this problem.
However, in the process of dissassembling the parts a nut fell out that I do not know where it came from :??:

Would anyone happen to know where this nut is used in the t41p?

Thanks for any help!!

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Looking at a T41 chassis, my best guess would be the threaded insert on the Ultrabay eject lever - the one where the security screw goes into. Do you have any dimensions?

edit: Can I change my vote? How about one of the threaded inserts that goes to the palmrest? If somebody installed the wrong screw (long one instead of short), then that can liberate the "nut" from the plastic tower its mounted into. Those are about 3mm in diameter and will accept any one of the 2mm screws.

It's really a case of "Been there. Done that"  :D

While I was playing around with several T41 units about two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to do exactly the same thing. Fortunately I was able to press the nut back into the tower with a little super glue.
