I cannot update BIOS under Win 2003

#1 Post by unary » Fri Oct 22, 2004 8:51 am

Current version is 3.08a and embedded controller is 3.03. I don't have a floppy drive.

I downloaded the BIOS update utility from IBM web site and it doesn't work. I called IBM tech support and they said I cannot do that under 2003. Must I install XP to update BIOS?

Thank you!

Use the downloadable one instead....download it,extract like it asks onto a floppy(assuming you have SOMETHING with a floppy drive)....then use burning software to make a bootable CD,and copy all the files from the floppy onto a CD(making sure you have the setting to show all files,in Folder Options)...now boot with the CD and update the bios that way.....

NOTE:..Upgrading the bios with a CD can be dangerous,if it misses reading a sector when updating,it may screw it up.....Although I have done it numerous times, with absolutely no problems ever...!!!

Just a Suggestion....

According to IBM documentation, Windows 2003 server is not supported at all on Txx notebooks.
None of the drivers support it nor is it listed as a supported OS in the product spec.
