Returning it for another is the only way to possibly fix the problem.
ah, well you can't relaly notice it, and I bet i'll forget about it soon. If i type fast though, the keyboard beeps once in a while, I guess when I press two keys at the same time, I'm trying to find an option to disable that (woops...it just did it again...)

I also just installed/customized alot of stuff, and I don't feel like returning it and having to do it all over agian. I unhid the other partition, and i don't feel like paying for partition magic, does anyone know of any good partition programs like partition magic that are possibly free or cheaper?

Device Manager -> View -> Show Hidden Devices

Non-Plug and Play Drivers -> Beep (Right Click) -> "Disable"

That should stop the beeping when various keys are pressed at the one time.

I can't wait until my T42p is ordered... IBM just received my RMA'd T42 and instead of asking for a Visa credit, I've asked them to credit a 'pre-paid' account so that it won't take 7-10 business days for them to credit me. The salesperson said I should be credited by end-of-day tomorrow and my T42p will go from quote to paid. :) Keeping fingers crossed on speedy delivery and no stuck/dead pixels.

Daniel.

Thanks! I think that worked.

If you RMA something because of dead pixels, can you take the drive out and swap it with the replacement machine? My boss did that with his HP laptop that had problems

I'm contimplating on whether to RMA it or not because of the dead pixel, what doyou guys think? it doesn't really matter to me but it might get annoying, my dad said more might show up later on..hmm...if i could ghost the drive (i've added alot) somehow, maybe to my desktop, then i think i could more easily rma it..

a better idea would be ordering a 2nd exact model. Then check them out. If the second one has less stuck pixels then return the first one. If not, then return the second one and consider yourself lucky that you have only 1 stuck pixel.

btw,
T41p here (no stuck pixel); got lucky.

Yeah...ditto that.

I have swapped lcd monitors off the replacement notebook that I got the compaq to send me. Its easy.
But I guess I am not the type that is easily discourage by some * screws.
If you know what I mean.

Good luck and I am still waiting for my T42p to be shipped. 7 more days to go. I hope IBM is good on their promise.

Been playing too much to post.

Just a note - I have the FlexView screen too and not a single dead pixel to be seen anywhere. Pretty happy about that.

Mofongo - how's the chicken?

[censored] all this talk of people getting their new T42s..... People here over at my school are still dicking around with the whole thing; you can't order until at least June 1st, and even then it won't come for another 3-4 weeks!! Man I'm impatient I know, but it's entirely this forum's fault! :D

2379DXU ordered May 14 arrived yesterday May 27.
15 inch screen looks quite good (no visible bad pixels - yet) - especially when compared side by side with a T20 (14.1 @ 1024x768) - Much brighter - the machine seems as heavy as the T20 and slightly larger.

It fits on the old "T" thinkpad case I was using for the T20

It used to be that you could gently tap the location on the dead/stuck pixel on the screen with a finger and that would sometimes fix the problem. Does that no longer work?

sometimes. not always.

i've never had that happen before. but some people have had luck with it. usually dead/stuck pixels aren't temporary. ie not a loose transistor, but a shorted transistor.

if you want to poke at it, you might just get fatty smudges on your lcd. or even create more dead pixels.
