What sets processor speed in a T4x "planar"

#1 Post by SteveS » Mon Jul 30, 2007 3:25 pm

This might have been asked before, but I could not find anything that answered the question with a search on the forum.

Many have written about updating processors in their T4x system board. But I have not seen exactly how the clock speed is set. In desktops, I am used to seeing something in the BIOS, but not in the T4x. Are there hidden commands, or does the system board somehow read the processor model in slow speed, them bump up the clock to what reads?

(From the posts, I have learned where you need to bump memory speed)

The clock speed and multipier is calculated dynamically from parameters read from the CPU

your system board only goes up to a certain amount. Once you put a chip in that's compatible the board reads it and then sets the multipliers and all that automatically to run it at the speed. Since laptops come with speedstep, the multiplier will change depending on what you're doing in order to save power.
