Another cpu upgrade question but not for dothan/bianas

#1 Post by Donwx » Sat Aug 04, 2007 9:55 am

Hello I know that you can upgrade the t40 sereis thinkpads from a bianas to a dothan but what about upgrading to a pentium 4 with HT (Hyperthreading technology) wouldnt a pentium 4 m with ht be faster than a dothan stateing that HT is a lower performance or a precurser to dual core processors so in other words it's simaler to a dual core processor just not as fast.Would one work with a thinkpad T40?(and I know that it uses a 533mhz therefore I wouldnt get the cpu's full speed with my T40 but would this really be that signaficant stateing that it has HT?Thanks.

Short answer = NO

Long answer = NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

(hehe)

Anyways, a P4 with HT might not even be faster than a Dothan 2.0Ghz. Not faster in the fact that you can do it faster, HT only helps during multi-tasking (and multi-threaded apps) but generally a 3.0Ghz HT P4 does NOT= 6Ghz. As it's widely known anyways, Pentium M (Core) is faster than a P4 in most comparisons. Your 1.7Ghz Dothan is probably about the same as a 2.8Ghz P4 (none-HT)
