7 battery cycle counts in 7 days - is that too much?

#1 Post by hiengu » Sun Oct 24, 2004 5:27 pm

I just checked my battery information and am a bit surprised. I have hardly used my T41 on battery (so I thought) and already have 7 cycle counts in 7 days. This isn't even my main machine yet.

How many cycle counts are batteries good for? Is there a warranty on the battery?

Battery warranty is one year. You are absolutely seeing excessive battery cycling which may be caused by the same issue I had. At that rate, your cell will wear out well before the year is up. I saw you post on my other thread. Definitely call IBM and cite my case number, IG3985. You likely have the same issue. They will say you have to wait for the next BIOS release. Get them to commit to replacing the battery if the new BIOS isn't out soon. You likely won't have trouble, it'll go "red" (in health as reported by Battery Maximizer) well before then.

In the meantime, you could also stop using Hibernation. That's what I did.

Good luck,
