Need help installing T40 motherboard.

#1 Post by wayneb59 » Sun Aug 05, 2007 7:58 am

I am installing a used bare ATI M7-32 motherboard in a T40 thinkpad. I will be adding CPU and other components from non-working mobo to the working motherboard. Any advice would be appreciated.

Other than following the HMM religiously, I take a paper plate and a magic marker and as I take off groups of screws and bits, I place them on the plate in a small pile and write on the plate where they came from, starting at 12:00 (like on a clock face) and go around the clock with each group, in order of removeal. Just go counterclockwise for installation.

This helps me with reassembly, there's nothing worse than having a couple of extra screws after a motherboard swap. That's sure to kill another hour or so!

Good luck.

I've done a million machines and I use masking tape - tape the screws to the device they are associated with.

Mobo update

#5 Post by wayneb59 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 4:51 pm

The mobo installation went good. The board I purchased on ebay for $216 was used but works like new. Thanks to all for your great replies. Now I'm wondering what to do with old mobo. It may be repairable.

They aren't worth much, but I always try to fix them. What's wrong with the board?
