How to remove Screw Caps?

#1 Post by sagara » Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:16 am

I intend to install an Atheros a/b/g/ MPCI wireless card in a T42, but looking at the 'how to do' manual, I see that 5 screws on the bottom-front of the palm rest are covered by screw caps. Is there a way of getting them off without some special tool, and in an undamaged condition so that they could be replaced!

What I do is use a very thin, sharp, pointed knife (sharp jackknife). Carefully insert the point of the knife under the cover and lift gently. It will come off. Place it sticky side up somewhere and then they can be replaced. I have removed mine three or four times now. ... JDH

Just pop them up with a screwdriver or razor blade. They will stick back on after you re-assemble the computer. Be REAL careful not to strip the threads on the 4 short screws - it's easy to do (the voice of experience)!
