Battery Recall. Help, Please!

#1 Post by bin.dong » Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:58 pm

I got a defective T4x battery off eBay (it's actually working but being recalled) and I tried submit a request on IBM website, however it said someone already submitted an order. I phoned IBM and talked several reps, they said IBM got nothing to do about this, they can only send one replacement for one defective battery and they also said if I wanna, I can sell it to somebody else! What the fxxx

What I am gonna do about this battery? This is the only battery on my laptop. Sell it to somebody else? I don't think so. Please help. Thanks

weird, i guess the person you bought it from called it in then got the new battery and figured he'd pawn off the other batter to make some cash from ya. I would send it back to the seller and get my money back and buy a non-recalled battery.

I think buying recalled stuff is illegal or something.

There's probably less than a 1:1,000 chance the battery will be a problem and less than a 1:10,000 chance of any serious issue (explosion. fire, etc). Those are pretty good odds in my book and I'd be very happy to take the battery off your hands

Buy another one or keep using it. Your choice.

and Lenovo upheld their part of the recall. They sent one replacement battery to replace one recalled battery. How many times should Lenovo replace the same recalled battery?

Caveat emptor / "Let the buyer beware". You took a chance when you got the first one off of ebay.

You've done everything you could - contacted Lenovo and the seller. Both refused you. Mark this incident up to "Lessons Learned". Next time you buy a battery, ask for the battery serial number and check it at the battery recall site.

Sorry,
Chris

I understand your concern! But in today's litigious society (and especially in the USA and Canada), perfectly good products are [censored] because of a minute incidence of defects. Believe it or not, it's cheaper to recall everything than to try and figure out accurately what's at fault.

I'd use it without any concern but you need to do what you're comfortable with.

Would you mind sharing the name of this interestingly principled seller with us? Whether they are the person getting the replacement battery or just an unlucky individual like yourself who bought from a less than honest or ignorant person, I'd like to avoid them. I feel bad for your rotten luck but it's to your credit that you feel it would be wrong to continue the cycle.

I'll take this as a good lesson. Ask before I buy. Thanks everybody.
