HELP: Missing LAN Network adapter
HELP: Missing LAN Network adapter
Hi,
My computer (T43) seems to have lost its ability to connect to the network via LAN (Ethernet).
Looking at my list of devies, under "Network", I only see the Wireless adapte - no Ethernet adapter. If I view the "hidden devices" I see the "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - Packet scheduler miniport", but not the device itself.
I tried running the diagnostics tool at startup (PC Doctor 2.0), under "Diagnostics -> Broadcom Ethernet": it returns "N/A".
I reboot and set the BIOS back to defaults (and confirmed that the network adapter is 'Enabled') - no help.
When I connect the network cable to the Ethernet port, the green light is illuminated and the yellow light blinks.
When I run 'ping 127.1.1.1' I get 4 replies. But I cannot ping anything outside (e.g., yahoo.com).
I tried IBM tech suooprt, but other than good will they did not help.
Did my Ethernet adapter died? Any suggestions?
Thank you very much!
Zevi

well i'm sure you rebooted the system but does any lights come on then? I think you are stuck in "deep sleep" mode and a reboot would wake it up. Shut down, take out the battery and AC adapter and then press and hold the power button a few times to "bleed" the power from the board. AFter that then connect back everything and try booting like normal.

Missing LAN Network adapter... HE'S BACK!!!
You guys are awsome!
SHoTTa35: I followed your suggestion, and last night I shutdown and took the battery out. This morning I turned the T43 on, and Tah-Dah -- I got my LAN back! (yeah, I know -- I probably didn't have to wait that long, but the computer wass left in the office...)
carbon_unit: I downloaded LSPfix, and looked at the ReadMe file. Since it indicated that I might hurt myself doing the wrong thing, and in light of the fact that the LAN came back, I decided not to make any changes. Especially due to the fact that (if I understood it right) the ReadMe file said that if LSPfix found something wrong it will put those items in the "Remove" list. When I ran the program, I got nothing in the "Remove" list.
Should I run it anyway?
In any case, my original problem is SOLVED! I really appreciate the prompt and very helpful response.
Cheers,
Zevi.
