xmas worth the wait?

#1 Post by jacob » Tue Oct 26, 2004 4:00 am

Hi there,

I'm thinking of buying a low end T42 soon. However, Xmas is only a 8 weeks away so I'm curious to know if it's worth holding out for any potential clear out price reductions.

I guess the T line is more business than consumer oriented so I'm not sure if the holidays would make much of a price difference. Does IBM typically reduce pricing during xmas?

The only thing I can really think of is that if you really don't mind waiting a potentially long time until perhaps more like Spring, that Alviso should be out which is the next evolution in notebook chipsets. Features include PCI-Express, which means possibly user upgradable graphics cards in an industry standardized format, DDR2 support, 533MHz FSB support, and 802.11a/b/g support. I would think that it might also include SASCSI which will likely be the next evolution of laptop hard drive interfaces.
