CPU Fan Pins

#1 Post by Aristo82 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 10:15 pm

I need some help with a small wiring question!

I want to verify this, but...
As you are looking at the CPU fan connector (already connected to motherboard) with the screen facing towards you...

Are the wire colors arranged in this way?

[Red][Blue][Light Brown]

I wrote down the sequence before I disassembled it, but I lost the memo!

The plug is keyed so it only goes one way, but also, your sequence is correct.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had that famous Fan Error problem. I took the wires out of the connector to check for a poor connection. That wasn't the problem and neither was the fan (ran on battery power) .

This may sound strange, but a failing CMOS battery can cause a fan error.[/code]

Also a faulty motherboard can cause the fan error.

I hope that is not the case.
