Does the sound come from the adapter or from the laptop? If the laptop, does it make the sound all the time? It's hard to tell without hearing, but could the noise be the disk drive? Disks make a ticking noise when the heads keep re-seeking when erors occur. It is a common noise just before the disk dies.

is that possible that caused from the adapter couldn't supply enough current?

I now use the genuine IBM 16v / 4.5 A which about 3 years old.

Does the power light flicker? A bad power jack with an intermittant connection can make noise.

Also, if it is a bad power jack, the noise may come and go depending on the angle of the power cord.
